The above symptoms are only some of the more familiar messages. Your female body talks to you all of your life, but few of us know how to listen—or even know that these are messages.

For example, perhaps you're gaining weight, and no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to lose. You may think it's just because you're undisciplined, or if you starved yourself more, you might start to lose. But in reality, it's your body telling you that things are off balance.

Or if you're depressed, you may think it's your own fault, there's nothing you can do about it, or maybe you need antidepressants.

But really, it may be a sign that your thyroid is low, or you're not making enough progesterone or testosterone, which can set you up for osteoporosis later in life. On the other hand, depression may also mean that you're estrogen dominant, a condition which sets you up for heart attacks, cancer, or strokes.

It's not your fault for not knowing that these conditions are signs of imbalance. Few doctors are trained to see symptoms in this light. In our age of specialization, few doctors know how to address the whole picture of how our bodies work and how in particular the female hormone system interacts with the rest of the body.
